Ryle was an Anglican minister who held to Calvinistic beliefs. He is well-known in our circles, and this is probably his best-known book. The theme here is similar to that of John MacArthur in The Gospel According to Jesus. "I have had a deep conviction for many years that practical holiness and entire self-consecration to God are not sufficiently attended to by modern Christians in this country."
It was true in England then, and it is true in America now.
